Of all the wonderful places one could wake up, the Damai is one of the most incredible. From the comfiest bed, spectacular views through lush greenery to the sea, the scent of fresh mint growing endlessly in the garden, waking up at the Damai is pretty special!
My favourite types of hotel are small and luxurious. Little gems with all the littles you don’t need to ask for, beautiful spaces, fantastic service and a place that allows all to stresses of daily life to melt away. This place ticked every one of those boxes! I travel often with work so inevitably end up in chain hotels; I’ve also done my fair share of hostels over the years when travelling as a student, so on my holidays now I research more and look forward to someone to feel pampered.
Upon check-in, post welcome drink, we were led to our private garden villa, beautiful balinese style, tropical surroundings and a view of the sea in the distance. We raced around the space and oooh’d and ahhh’d – sending photos back home with excitement too! The Damai is in northern Bali, in a sleepylittle town called Lovina, it’s the stark opposite of the hustle and bustle of Ubud and Seminyak and instead it’s a place to strip off your stresses and melt into relaxation mode. From the free yoga classes, the smiliest staff ever, to the scent of fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables growing everywhere, to the incredible spa, the Damai is just perfection for “unwind, rejuvenate and zen out” mode.Here’s a bit of a photo journey so you can relive it with me, photos from both my own experience a few courtesy of the Damai website:

The food was of course exceptional, most of which organic and grown on the Damai’s own farms. You’ve the option of eating in the formal dining room, out by the pool or in the comfort of your own villa.
The grounds smell wonderful with herbs of all types and tropical fruit and vegetables growing everywhere.
If you can find it in you to drag yourself away from the chill of the hotel, Lovina has a really unusual soft sand black beach, it’s brilliantly quiet, largely filled with balinese visitors, the waves are calm and the beach soft… the perfect place to watch the sun set.
If you’re an early bird you can also try to catch the dolphins with the sunrise, a really pinch-yourself-this-is-magical experience.
The holy hot springs of Banjar are also not too far and a brilliant day out, with hot 37 degrees springs of sulphuric spring water, it’s pretty special. Hardly a tourist in sight and more effective at stress relief than any massage!
The Damai is just a world away from the likes of Seminyak and Kuta, which are filled with tourists, Lovina a perfect relaxed town nestled between the Bedugul mountain range and the Bali sea. The Damai is truly the perfect paradise to lose yourself to relaxation in and the best luxury hotel to stay at in Lovina.
